About Hutch's Bicycle Store
Hutch's Bicycle Shop
Hutch's was founded in 1927 by Earl Hutchinson. His son Bill (Billy) took over after Earl retired. Its one of the oldest bicycle stores in the US. Bill had 3 daughters and none of them followed him into the business. When it came time for Bill to retire he gave the business to his 3 longest term employees. Bill was very much loved for his fairness and warm smile. He cared deeply for all his employees and customers. We are carrying along the same traditions Hutch's has been known for since 1927.
Hutch's is the largest bicycle shop in Eugene/Springfield and one of the largest Bicycle shops in Oregon. With over 500 bicycles in stock, Hutch's has a great selection from e-bikes, kids, family, comfort, road, gravel, mountain, and commuter bikes.
We have parts and accessories to support all these categories as well. We service all makes and models of bicycles.
We have the best trained service department around.
We are the areas premier Fitting destination with one certified master Retul fitter and another one soon to be.

Jay Loew
Partner & Certified Body Geometry Fit Expert
Jay feels lucky to love coming to work each day. “In 30 years, I’ve never once woken up and thought, ‘Crap! I have to go to work today.’ How many people can say that?”
Jay has worked for Collins’ parent company for 30 years and has been a partner for 20. Currently, Jay is one of only 150 certified Body Geometry Fit Experts in the world and the only one in our region. That means Jay knows better than most how to fit you to your bicycle.
He rides his road bike regularly, teaches Taekwondo and loves to cook and eat good food.
“Our products are service and accurate information. It just so happens that we sell bicycles and accessories, too.”

Jason Oakley
Service Manager
Jason grew up outside of Nashville but feels right at home in Eugene. “In Nashville, we were the only ones growing food in our front yard. Here, we fit right in!”
An avid hiker and backpacker, Jason got into mountain biking because it offered a similar appeal, “yet much faster.” He got into road biking as a means to commute, but then learned he liked to travel long distances.
Jason’s been fixing bicycles professionally for 17 years – everything from rusty winter commuters to high-end race bikes. For a while, he traveled with USA Triathlon Team and Raceday Transport as a mechanic for world triathlon events.

Debbie Boyd
Partner
Debbie first got to know the founder of Hutch’s over breakfast. That is, he was a regular customer at a local restaurant, and she was a cook.
When he offered her a job in the shop more than 30 years ago, she admittedly had a lot to learn. She picked it up quickly and has enjoyed coming to work every day since.
“We have a wonderful crew and great customers! I couldn’t have asked for a better place to work.”

"Q"
Head mechanic
AKA: Mike Holden, Camera shy and maybe wanted...somewhere!
Been with us for 10 years and 6 years before that.
Loves old cars and giving telemarketers hell. A big 007 fan.

Brian Whitmore
Mechanic
Brian began his career with cars – racing and repairs. After a 33-year career as co-owner of EuroAsian Automotive, he tried cycling – first mountain biking and then road biking. It didn’t take long before he was hooked. To fill his time and since he’s always been mechanically inclined, he asked if Collins could use a part-time mechanic. Now, he works during the busy season and spends winters enjoying his other passions.
Brian enjoys living in Pleasant Hill with his wife, as well as two dogs and a cat who are “nice enough to share their three acres with us.” Brian also spends as much time as possible in his wood shop, making fine furniture.
Dave Kendall
Mechanic
When Dave was a boy, he asked for a Schwinn Stingray for Christmas. What he got instead was an old Schwinn and a set of tools. He built that bike into the one he wanted and before too long, he was repairing bikes for everyone in the neighborhood. The rest is history.
After working on airplanes in the U.S. Marine Corps and a brief stint as an auto mechanic, Dave went back to his first love. He graduated from United Bicycle Institute’s advanced mechanics course in the mid-80s and lent his skills to many bike shops over the years.
He’s been with Oregon Bicycle Sports for more than a decade and says, “I really love it here!” He no longer pines for a Stingray, but does collect Schwinn Fat Tire bikes and other antique beach cruisers.

Andy Carlisle
Mechanic
As the newest member of the Collins team, Andy works part time while attending school. Previously from Seattle, Andy enjoys the positive atmosphere of the bike shop and the Eugene cycling community.
“Oregon is an amazing outdoor playground with endless miles of mountain bike trails and great skiing.”
When Andy is not going to school, working, riding or skiing, you might find him enjoying a good oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.

Chance Corbin-Taylor
Mechanic
Chance found his inspiration for cycling in a video game. Then, he discovered a local skate park. Now, he’s an avid BMX freestyle specialist and mountain biker.
Having worked at the shop for five years, Chance feels he has grown not only as a mechanic, but as a human being. “The awesome people who work and shop here inspire me to be a better person and to find ways to better serve my community.”
With certifications from Specialized Bicycles and Shimano Components, Chance wants you to know, your bike will be in good hands with him.
